Ghengis Fireworks Jupiter Barrage Box review

Last week we got a delivery through which made not just the Madhouse Mini-testers' but also Madhouse Daddy Mike's little eyes light up with glee - a big package of fireworks ! In the UK, fireworks are pretty much reserved for November 5th but in France, they get pulled out all the time. People buy them for Bastille Day (14th July), New Year's Eve, Christmas Day, weddings, birthday parties ... Most of the fireworks that we have ever bought in France are the Chinese ones that are banned in the UK and, quite frankly, I can see why ! The wicks are dangerously short and they often shoot off in totally haphazard directions which is hilarious for the people watching through the window from safety but rather scary for the ones lighting them who have to hide around corners and jump in the shed to escape.

Well, I'm pleased to say, these fireworks were sent through from Ghengis Fireworks, the UK's largest independent fireworks retailer, and all their fireworks  meet the British Standard BS7114: PART 2: 1988 and UN:0336. Phew !

We received the Jupiter Barrage Box which contains 6 explosive "cakes", each one containing 16 shots so that makes a total of - come on, get your mental arithmetic skills working ! - 96 pretty balls of light. The PR person who emailed said that they were kid-friendly because they weren't very loud and I have to say, when I saw the size of the fireworks, I had a moment of doubt ! He was quite right though, they are pretty but only make a small amount of noise, so there were lots of oohs and aahs but no hiding behind the curtains from the Madhouse Mini-testers.  There were no duds in the selection (always annoying, especially when you know how much they cost !) and they were really impressive for a private firework display - the neighbours' kids were all looking out of the windows !

A lovely touch is that they add free sparklers and portfires to all orders. I didn't know what portfires were but they're long tapers that make lighting fireworks much safer. I was actually very impressed when I went to look at the prices. The selection pack that we recived costs a very reasonable £29.95.

I did try taking some photos but because I was inside with the kids, the only thing I managed to get a shot of was the flash bouncing off the window ! After a couple of failed attempts, I gave up and just enjoyed the show instead ! It's a shame though because there is a competition on their website where you can enter your fireworks photgraphy.

They also have fireworks themed colouring sheets for the kids to enjoy (a bit of a sanity-saver for the upcoming half-term holiday there !) that you can download here.

A final piece of good news - they are offering all Madhouse Family Reviews readers a 10% discount across the whole site, using the code BN1012.
