The SmokeFree Formula: A Revolutionary Way to Stop Smoking by Professor Robert West with Chris Smyth and Jamie West

Published by Orion Books on 26th December 2013, £9.99 trade paperback, £5.99 eBook

Give up smoking…for good

Smokers wanting to stop need a reliable source of information to guide them, not based upon pet theories, wild claims or wishful thinking, but on the best research by leading scientists. That is what this book is – everything here is based on the best scientific evidence. Robert West has devoted his 30-year career to discovering what works when it comes to giving up smoking. He heads up a team of researchers mainly funded by government and charities with one aim in mind: finding better ways of helping smokers who want to give up. This book combines Robert’s own research with findings from other leading scientists to give the most accurate and reliable information there is. All this is presented in a very personal style with personal anecdotes and interviews with ex-smokers to bring it all to life.

In the course of the book, Professor West writes entertainingly and with authority about the many ways that can help us to stop smoking, from professional support and websites to electronic cigarettes and medicines. Everything that can help is an ‘ingredient’, and Professor West advises how to combine these ingredients into a personalised ‘formula’. Robert West’s message to the smoker is ‘I guide - you decide’. However many goes it takes to achieving lasting success, there’s no real downside to setting off down that path. The worst that can happen is that the smoker saves some money, gets a bit healthier and learns something that will help next time. The best that can happen is the smoker can achieve a longer, healthier, wealthier and happier life.

I smoked for 20 years, then my lung collapsed, and I quit for 9 month, yet over Christmas, because of other issues, i started again, and I can't seem to stop, despite the intense pain I'm causing myself! I think it's depression, so I keep stopping for a few days and giving in, and I really need help!!! hopefully I'll have quit before you even read this, but I'm driving myself mad, as it's like I'm 2 different people atm!
