Nice Ice Baby ! (Character & WeightWatchers Ice Cream review)

It's a tough life being a blogger sometimes ! I don't know who was most excited when these vouchers arrived for us to try out some iced desserts - me or the kids ! We got the best of both worlds because we had the choice between WeightWatchers frozen desserts and kids’ character ice lollies featuring Hello Kitty, Peppa Pig, Thomas & Friends and Star Wars.

We headed off to the supermarket, gaily clutching our vouchers, but didn't manage to find all of the products in the range. Rest assured, we will keep looking though !

Here are the kids' choices :

Hello Kitty Tutti Frutti Flavoured Ice Cream Lollies (6 x 60ml for £1.50)

Peppa Pig Strawberry & Vanilla Ice Cream Lollies (6 x 60ml for £1.50)

Thomas & Friends Vanilla & Raspberry Ice Cream Lollies (6 x 60ml for £1.50)

Star Wars Vanilla & Chocolate Ice Cream Lollies (4 x 60ml for £1)

We've sampled the Hello Kitty and Star Wars ones so far, both of which were lovely, really did look like the characters they were supposed to represent and were kiddie-sized so were pretty light on calories. Pierre is very excited about the Peppa Pig ones so I've promised to save the remaining vouchers until we find her !

I was also asked to try out the Weight Watchers range of iced desserts and I have to say, I was blown away by the vast selection of products on offer, including Mini Sticks, Cones and Sundaes, generally under 200 calories each and low in fat. What's not to like?!

We've been sampling the Mini Sticks - you get 8 in a box, 4 Vanilla with White Chocolate and 4 Vanilla with Milk Chocolate. As the name suggests, they are small - imagine something a bit bigger than a fun-sized Mars Bar on a stick and you won't be far out. If you're not watching your waistline, you'll want to eat two at a time but if you're watching your portion size, it's a great way of making sure you don't over indulge. The ice cream is lovely and creamy and the chocolate makes them even more indulgent - they're perfect for a guilt-free dessert after a meal or a not-too-naughty treat in front of the telly. Each stick contains a very reasonable 91 calories (or 3 ProPoints).

My vote goes to the Mini Pot Swirls though. You get four in a box, two chocolate honeycomb and two toffee fudge, both of which are divine. Again, the pots are a reasonable size (100ml so a bit bigger than the Mini Sticks) and contain a measly 2 ProPoints/77 calories each. They taste lovely and seem really creamy so I'd never have guessed they are low fat. If you're counting the calories (or ProPoints), they're the perfect guilt-free sweet treat.

Disclosure : We received some vouchers to try out the products.
