Time for Tubby Eh Ohs, not Bye Byes ! Teletubbies toys review

A couple of weeks ago, I gave you a little teaser, showing you the huge box of Teletubbies goodies that had arrived for us to review.

We were under strict instructions not to reveal the contents until today but after several days of the Madhouse kids wanting to find out what was inside, I relented and we had a sneaky peek.

But even then, it was still a surprise !

The suspense was (almost) killing them so we eventually unpacked everything.

And discovered this fabulous selection of the new Teletubbies Toys by Character Options. It was a real trip down memory lane for me because I remember the original series which aired from 1997 to 2001, but I've yet to see the new episodes of the reboot series, that hit CBeebies in November 2015, introducing a whole new generation of fans to the series.

Pierre was delighted to discover that all four of the tubby friends were in the box. We found small plastic figurines of Tinky Winky with his bag and Dipsy with his hat. (£3.99 each)

Along with bigger plush versions of Po and Laa-Laa. (£6.99 each)

The excitement was mounting though, because it was time to move on to the interactive toys, starting with the Talking Dipsy Soft Toy (£9.99). If you press his tummy, he chatters away, saying all the classic Dipsy sayings, as you can see in our little video at the end of the post.

Tickle & Glow Po (£14.99) is made of hard plastic and is another interactive toy. If you tickle his tummy, the little baby face on his tummy lights up and giggles. We had a few problems getting this one to work properly until we realised that it's not actually his tummy that needs tickling - it's the red area above the TV screen in his tummy that reacts. One slight niggle with this one was that the screw in the battery compartment was so tight that I almost didn't manage to unscrew it.

Next we discovered the Tubby Phone (£9.99) which needs three watch-type batteries. (According to the packaging they are included.)

On the front is a mirror (which would already be enough to keep babies and toddlers amused !) and when you push the buttons on the phone, a picture of one of the Teletubbies comes up on the screen and the phone rings. They chat, giggle and sing so you can have pretend conversations with them and if you stop playing, the phone will light up and ring, encouraging you to start playing again.

Pierre couldn't wait to dive in and play with the Superdome Playset (£29.99).

This has lots of things to do, including pushing the lift up and down, spinning round the seats, moving Noo-Noo or making the Tubby Toast pop out of the machine. There are also buttons to push for extra sound effects and Pierre was delighted to spot the miniature Tubby Phone which looks just like his toy (which is why, in the video, he is convinced that he can push on the pictures on the phone, even though he can't !). The set comes with a Po figurine - Pierre also played with his Tinky Winky and Dipsy figurines from the separate packs but as they are standing, not sitting, they fall out of the spinny seats.

I made a few little clips to show you the new toys in all their sound-and-lights glory. To see some of the other toys in the range, you can check out Galina's review at Chez Maximka.
